1. Homemade facial moisturizer with shea butter for dry skin

You will need

½ cup shea butter

6-7 drops of sea buckthorn oil

6-7 drops of rosehip seed oil

6-7 drops of geranium oil

1 teaspoon avocado oil

method

Melt the shea butter in a water bath**.

Once soft, remove from heat.

Add avocado oil and mix.

Add the essential oils and beat the mixture well until it forms a creamy consistency.

Store it in a jar and use it as a daily face cream.

 

Why this works

Sea buckthorn oil is extremely effective in treating eczema and relieving dry and itchy skin (1). Rosehip seed, geranium and avocado oils equally soothe your dry skin, while shea butter hydrates and nourishes it. To make a double boiler, pour some water into a pot and place it on the stove. Place a heatproof glass container that fits snugly over the pot. Once the water begins to simmer, leave the butter in the glass container and allow it to melt. Keep stirring until it melts.

You will need

½ cup argan oil (you can also use jojoba oil or hemp oil)

½ teaspoon emu oil

4-6 drops of essential oil (lemongrass, rose geranium, rose, chamomile, palmarosa, rosemary, lavender or peppermint)

method

Take a glass bottle and pour argan oil into it.

Add the other oils to the argan oil and mix well.

Massage your skin with the mixture.

You will need

¼ cup beeswax pellets

½ cup coconut oil

½ cup olive oil

10 drops essential oil (patchouli, Roman chamomile, vanilla, sandalwood, frankincense, clary sage, lavender or geranium oil)

method

Use a double boiler to melt the beeswax.

Once it melts, remove it from the kettle and let it cool.

Add coconut and olive oil and beat well.

Add the essential oil(s).

Beat the mixture well until it forms a creamy consistency.

Pour the mixture into a jar and store in a cool, dry place (not the refrigerator).

method

Melt beeswax, coconut and almond oil in a water bath.

Add the oils to a blender and allow the mixture to cool.

Add the essential oils and aloe vera gel. Mix until a creamy consistency is formed.

Store the mixture in a glass jar. You can even keep it in the fridge.

5. DIY nourishing face and body cream for dry skin

You will need

½ cup shea butter

method

Melt the shea butter in a water bath. Add almond oil after it melts and turn off the burner.

You will need

1 teaspoon chamomile tea (or dried chamomile flowers)

½ cup water

1 tablespoon lanolin

1 tablespoon beeswax

½ cup sweet almond oil

1 vitamin A capsule

1 vitamin E capsule

3 drops of geranium essential oil

method

Add the chamomile tea (or flowers) to the water, simmer for 10 minutes and strain the liquid.

Melt the lanolin (if you are not using liquid lanolin) and beeswax in a water bath.

Allow the mixture to cool. Add the chamomile broth.

Prick the vitamin capsules and squeeze the liquid into the mixture. Continue stirring and then add the essential oil.

Beat well until you get a creamy consistency.

Pour the mixture into a glass jar and store it in a cool, dark place.

method
